It is that time of year when the Saddleback sports information department produces the top-10 high points in Saddleback College athletics for the calendar year. Catnip Award No. 10 for 2022 goes to -- the 400th win in the history of Saddleback football.
Saddleback opened the fall schedule needing one win to reach 400 wins in the history of the football program. The Bobcats wasted no time on opening night, beating Glendale College 30-16 to improve to 400-160-7 in what would be the 54th season of football at the school.
Saddleback trailed 16-10 at the half and went to the locker room needing a few adjustments to capture the win. The Bobcats came out hot and would outscore the Vaqueros 20-0 the rest of the way, using a balanced attack on offense and a stingy defense to improve to 1-0 on the season.
Saddleback scored on the opening possession of the second half when Dartanyon Moussiaux hit Daniel Stokes (pictured) for an 8-yard touchdown to give the Bobcats a 17-16 lead. Saddleback never looked back as Glendale had just four yards of offense in the fourth quarter of play.
The win was No. 400 in the history of the program, dating back to 1968. The first win for the program came against Barstow College (26-25) on October 5, 1968, in a game played at Mission Viejo High School.
