Saddleback transfers have now earned close to an estimated $1.3-million in scholarships so far through the fall semester, which is a big number heading into the spring seasons.
The uptick in scholarship monies also ends a two-year cycle in which the numbers were severely impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The numbers started to bounce back last year when the department had just under an estimated $2-million in scholarships awarded. The best year ever recorded was in 2019-20 when just over an estimated $3-million in scholarships were earned by Saddleback athletes.
In total, 22 athletes have already left for new schools or plan to leave for a new school following the spring semester. Many more are expected to entertain and sign offers from four-year institutions during the spring.
