Saddleback finishes 6th in state, 17th in nation
The Saddleback College athletics department had one of its best years in history in 2022-23. The Bobcats finished sixth in the state in the Daktronics Cup while finishing 17th in the nation in the Learfield Cup standings.
The Saddleback College athletics department had one of its best years in history in 2022-23. The Bobcats finished sixth in the state in the Daktronics Cup while finishing 17th in the nation in the Learfield Cup standings.
Saddleback's sixth place finish in the state tied a record sixth place finish in 2021-22. The 17th place finish is a new record, breaking an 18th place finish in 2021-22.
Saddleback had some sensational finishes in 2022-23. The Bobcats won the state championship in women's soccer to start the year (image above) and had second place finishes in both men's golf and baseball while finishing third in the state in women's golf.
Saddleback also garnered points for strong finishes in women's water polo, men's water polo, women's tennis, women's volleyball and men's cross country, all of which made the playoffs or finished high at the state finals.
The Daktronics Cup started out as the Pepsi Cup in 2003-04 and became the NATYCAA Cup in 2008-09. It became the Daktronics Cup in 2018-19. It measures the overall strength of an athletics program based on regional finishes. The Learfield Cup is handed out to the top programs in the nation.
Saddleback was one of four programs from the Orange Empire Conference to finish in the top-10 in the state.
Saddleback is one of 110 community colleges in the state of California that compete in athletics under the California Community College Athletic Association (3C2A) umbrella.
