The Saddleback athletics department learned on Tuesday that longtime announcer Steve Henkle has decided to retire. Henkle had been providing a number of services for the department for over 17 years.
Henkle was best known for his work at baseball, football, volleyball, softball and basketball games where he served as a public address announcer and official bookkeeper. He also helped out at both charitable and fundraising events for the department.
"We're sad to see him go," Saddleback SID Brad Hoiseth said. "Steve has not only been a tremendous asset to what we do, but a great friend. We had a lot of fun in press boxes over the years, and his camaraderie and sense of professionalism will be sorely missed."
Henkle plans to spend more time with his grandkids.
