Cats and Pirates play in 90-degree temperatures
The Saddleback beach volleyball team completed a double-double on Friday with a 3-2 win against Orange Coast College at the Great Park in Irvine. The Bobcats had beaten Cypress College earlier in the day.
The heat was sweltering with temperatures reaching well into the 90's in the sand in Irvine. The Bobcats took advantage of an hour break before having to play a second match against Orange Coast, who had just finished up against Cypress.
Saddleback and Orange Coast battled back and forth, with three matches going to a third set. The Bobcats finished off the day with the pair of Kara Lehmenkuler and Sadie Holmes winning an action-packed match by defeating their opponents 15-12 in a third and final set at the 5's position.
Saddleback picked up another grueling win at the 2's when Cori Willcoxson and Kayla Ostovar outlasted their opponents with a 21-17, 17-21, 21-12 win. Eva Gardner and Kyra Bouldin were winners in straight sets at the 4's by a count of 22-20, 21-19.
Saddleback is now 4-5 overall and 4-1 in Orange Empire Conference play following the win. The Bobcats will play at Irvine Valley College next Friday.
