Saddleback hits four dingers in San Marcos
The Saddleback baseball team shook off a two-game losing streak and won at Palomar College, 10-7, on Thursday afternoon in San Marcos. The Bobcats hit four home runs in the game.
Saddleback started the day by not hitting a home run in five straight games. The Bobcats made up for the slump with a massive display of power on Thursday.
Saddleback's opening run of the day came off the bat of Carter Enoch when he hit a solo shot with two outs in the inning for the early lead. It was Enoch's second home run of the season and first since opening day.
Saddleback trailed 2-1 heading into the top half of the third inning when the bats again produced the long ball. Wesley Hickey hit a two-run homer with Jack Borges on base for a 3-2 lead. Like Enoch, it was Hickey's second dinger of the season and the first since opening day.
Saddleback led 4-3 heading to the sixth inning when Jacob Hudson decided to join the party. Hudson's solo blast gave the Cats a 6-4 advantage heading to the later stages of the game.
Saddleback put some distance between themselves and the Comets in the top half of the seventh inning when they struck for four runs in taking a 10-4 lead. The Bobcats had three hits and took advantage of a defensive miscue in the inning. The big blow was a two-run homer from Enoch to give Saddleback a six-run lead. It was the second homer of the game for Enoch, who finished 2-for-5 with three RBI.
Saddleback held on in the later innings as Palomar made a surge. The Comets battled back to 10-7 and had the bases loaded with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning when Saddleback got out of a jam with a force play at second base to end the rally.
Saddleback is now 5-2 overall to start the season. The Bobcats will be back home on Saturday to host Moorpark College. The Bobcats and Raiders are scheduled to start at 12:00 PM at the Saddleback Baseball complex.
