Cats take game one
It was Joey D-Day as Joey Doskocil finished 3-for-4 with 4 RBI
The Saddleback baseball team opened a three-game series at Cuesta College with a 10-5 win on Thursday afternoon in San Luis Obispo. The game was tight heading into the latter innings before the offense took over the game.
Saddleback led 5-4 heading to the seventh inning when Saddleback strung together some hits to distance themselves from Cuesta. The Bobcats scored a run in the top half of the seventh inning when they pieced together three straight singles, with the final hit from Jack Borges bringing home Joey Doskocil from third base for a 6-4 lead.
The eighth inning was more of the same as Saddleback had three hits and a walk in the inning. Again it was Doskocil in the middle of the action as his double drove home both Jacob Hudson and Ryan Luce to give the Bobcats a 9-5 advantage.
Saddleback added another insurance run in the ninth inning when they took advantage of some wildness on the mound for Cuesta in tacking on another run. Wesley Hickey was hit by a pitch to start the inning and then advanced to second on a wild pitch before stealing third base. He would later score on a sacrifice fly from Matthew Henning as the Bobcats built up a five-run lead.
Saddleback used a trio of pitchers, with Landon Gordon picking up the win by pitching the final 4.2 innings of play. Gordon allowed just one hit while striking out five in picking up his first win of the season.
Doskocil led the bats, going 3-for-4 with four RBI. Hudson also had a big day, finishing 3-for-5 with three runs-scored.
Saddleback and Cuesta will play game two of the series on Friday at 2:00 PM in San Luis Obispo.
