The Saddleback football team is off to a 3-0 start and with winning comes praise from the various media outlets. The Gauchos had two more players win player-of-the-week honors this week while moving up to No. 8 in the country in the national rankings.
For the second week in a row, Saddleback took home two player-of-the-week honors handed out by the Southern California Football Association as Chris Spiering was named offensive player-of-the-week and Corey Selenski was chosen as the special teams/all-purpose player-of-the-week for the National Division Southern League.
Spiering had one of the great stat lines you will ever see for a wide receiver on Saturday when he made seven grabs for 209 yards and three touchdowns…averaging an unthinkable 29.9 yards-per-catch. The sophomore from Carlsbad High School had touchdown catches of 43, 78 and 30 yards in the first half as Los Angeles Harbor College had no answers on defense.
Selenski was active for a third straight week and is third on the team in tackles for the year. The freshman from JSerra High School had six tackles, one forced fumble and a fumble recovery against the Seahawks last weekend.
Saddleback is also moving up in the national rankings as the Gauchos moved up to No. 8 in the country according to JCGridiron.com. The Gauchos will get a tough test when they host El Camino College in the home-opener this Saturday. The Warriors are ranked No. 17 in the JCGridiron Dirty 30 Rankings.
For those unable to make the game this Saturday, it will be streamed live on the Gaucho Sports Network starting at 6:00 PM.
