The Saddleback athletics department announced this week that Jeff Fischer has become the new head football coach for the Bobcats. Fischer is the seventh head coach in program history.
Fischer joined the staff in 2022 and has spent the past two seasons as the offensive coordinator. During his tenure, Saddleback has shown great progress on the offensive side of the ball. Saddleback finished fifth in scoring amongst National Division programs in the state this past season, averaging 36.9 points-per-game. In addition, the Bobcats were fourth in the state in yardage-per-game, averaging 419.3 yards-per-game.
"I'm excited for the opportunity to lead a program with such a great history," Fischer said. "The opportunity to help young men create a better future for themselves is a tremendous honor. Hopefully I can make the alumni proud and continue the winning ways for a program that has three national titles in the trophy case."
Previous to Saddleback, Fischer spent five years at Ventura College where he was the offensive coordinator, quarterback's coach and recruiting coordinator for the Pirates. Under his guidance Ventura was a dominating force, offensively. The Pirates scored 42.9 points-per-game in 2021, scoring 468 points in 11 games. It was the third time in four years that Ventura had ranked in the top 10 in the state in points-per-game. Ventura made the playoffs in every season Fischer was on the staff and had an appearance in the 3C2A State Championship Game in 2018.
Before heading to Ventura, Fischer spent four seasons at Cerritos College. During his tenure at Cerritos the Falcons were 27-16, making it to the Western State Bowl (2013), Golden State Bowl (2014) and Southern California Bowl (2015).
Fischer played quarterback at Cerritos College in 2007 and 2008, earning second-team All-National Division Central Conference honors as a sophomore. His .638 completion percentage still stands as a school record, as do his 180 completions in a season. At the time of his sophomore year, the 2,063 passing yards ranked as the second most in a single season in program history.
Following his playing days at Cerritos, Fischer earned a scholarship and transferred to Utah State University. Following his playing days, Fischer then decided to join the coaching ranks. He started his career at Utah State as a graduate assistant in 2011, working with the offense and the quarterbacks.
