Citrus scored first when Cameron Bateman took a pass from Brian Salazar and raced 19 yards for a score. It was the only time Citrus would lead in the game.
The Bobcats answered back when Kavaughn Clark scampered 33 yards to tie the score with 9:51 remaining in the opening quarter. Saddleback then took the lead when Jaylen Beverly-Rushing capped off a nine-play drive with a four-yard touchdown run for a 14-7 lead.
The teams swapped scores and were tied at 21-21 when Saddleback finally took the lead for good when kicker Jon Richardson made good on a 21-yard field goal for a 24-21 lead with 5:10 left in the half. The Bobcats upped the advantage to 31-21 when Tyler Dudden took a quarterback draw and scored a nine-yard touchdown for a 10-point lead at the intermission.
Saddleback bolted out of the locker room with a quick score when Jagger Blauwkamp returned the kickoff to the Citrus 18-yard-line and three plays later Leonidas Bell rushed for a four-yard score as the Bobcats increased the lead to 38-21. Clark then put the game on ice with his second touchdown of the game when he raced around the right side untouched for a nine-yard score and a 45-21 lead with 9:32 remaining on the clock.
Saddleback finished with 302 yards rushing for the game. The Bobcats were led by Clark, who carried the ball 11 times for 151 yards and two scores. Saddleback held a decisive advantage in time-of-possession as a result, finishing with a 34:25-25:35 advantage.
Saddleback is now 2-0 to start the season. The Bobcats will look for a third straight win when they travel to Fullerton College next Saturday. The Bobcats and Hornets are scheduled to start at 12:00 PM in Fullerton.
