Cats take two from Cal Lu

The Saddleback women's flag football team won two games against California Lutheran University on Wednesday at Saddleback.  The Bobcats are now 12-3 with two games remaining.

Saddleback hosted California Lutheran for a double-header on Wednesday and managed a pair of wins against the four-year school from Thousand Oaks, California.

Saddleback darted out to a 14-0 lead in the opening half as Kirra Clavijo found Anelly Alba on a 37-yard score in the opening quarter before hooking up with Grace Goedhart for a 31-yard score with 2:45 remaining in the half.

Cal Lu cut the lead to 14-6 when they had a 77-yard interception return for a score midway through the third quarter.  The Bobcats bounced back when Isabelle Whittaker scored on a 3-yard run with 3:50 remaining in the game.  Saddleback then got a quick turnover and turned it into points when Clavijo found Olivia Green for a 6-yard touchdown with 1:44 remaining and a 26-6 advantage.  The Bobcats would tack on two more points after Addie Lee broke through off the edge and pulled a flag in the end zone for a safety in the final minute.

Saddleback started slowly in game two and fell behind 7-0 after Cal Lu scored towards the end of the first quarter.  The Bobcats rallied for two scores before the half to take the lead.  Leilani De Leon threw touchdown passes to Gwyneth Kirtland and Mackenzie Smith as the Bobcats took a 13-7 lead right before the half.

California Lutheran tied the game at 13-13 midway through the third quarter.  The Bobcats then charged back when De Leon found Green for a 2-yard touchdown with 20 seconds remaining in the third quarter for a 19-13 lead.  Saddleback iced the game early in the fourth quarter when De Leon threw an 18-yard touchdown to Alba to increase the lead to 25-13 with 8:10 left on the clock. 

Saddleback's defense was solid throughout, picking off the California Lutheran quarterback three times in each game. 

Saddleback is now 12-3 overall for the year.  The Bobcats will travel to Irvine Valley College on Friday for a 2:00 PM start against the Lasers.
