Cats remain perfect for the season
Saddleback now 8-0 to start the season
Saddleback improved to 8-0 on the season with a 20-0 shutout over El Camino College on Tuesday inside the stadium practice facility. The Bobcats will play at Pomona Pitzer tomorrow.
Saddleback was playing a bit shorthanded on Tuesday as some of the players had the day off due to a grueling four-game tournament on Friday. The Bobcats started slowly, but eventually got things cranked up in shutting out the Warriors.
Saddleback's defense has been a constant force all season, and Tuesday was no different. El Camino only advanced the ball over midfield a couple of times the entire game as the Cats pitched their third shutout in the past five outings.
Saddleback and El Camino were scoreless through most of the first half until the Bobcats broke through right before the intermission. Saddleback had a long pass to Isabelle Whittaker deep into El Camino territory before Kirra Clavijo connected with Olivia Green for a 1-yard score and a 7-0 lead with 36 seconds left in the half.
Saddleback came out for the second half red hot, scoring quickly when Clavijo went over the top to Mackenzie Smith for a 46-yard score to give the Bobcats a 14-0 lead with 8:45 left in the third quarter. The Bobcats then scored again with 6:01 left in the third quarter when Brooklee Harris found Ella Henry along the sidelines for a 35-yard score and a 20-0 lead.
Saddleback is scheduled to play at Pomona Pitzer College on Wednesday at 5:00 PM in Claremont.
