The Saddleback men's track & field season finished on a high note on Saturday at the 3C2A State Track & Field Championships at Saddleback. Micah Krosby stunned the crowd when he captured the state title in the pole vault in the final event of the day.
Krosby consistently improved throughout the season and in the past month became a challenger for the state title when he won the Orange Empire Conference title in late April. He qualified via a pole vault jump off at the Southern California Regional Finals and his biggest vault of the season coming into the meet was 4.40 meters at both the OEC Championships and Southern California Regional Finals.
Krosby picked a great day to have his best vault of the season, clearing 4.55 meters on his first attempt in the state finals after having to go to his third and final attempt at 4.40 meters. He was the only vaulter to clear on his first attempt, giving him an advantage over two other vaulters from Mt. San Antonio College who had to go to a second attempt to clear the height. With nobody clearing 4.70 meters, Krosby captured the California Community College Athletic Association (3C2A) individual state title.
Krosby wasn't the only Bobcat providing heroics on Saturday. Daniel May gave the home crowd another thrill when he waited until his sixth and final attempt to have his best javelin throw of the day. May had a fling of 56.34 meters to finish fourth in the state, which was three spots higher than his finish at the 2023 state championships.
In total, Krosby and May picked up 15 team points to put Saddleback in 11th place in the team competition. It was the highest finish at the state finals since 2018 when Saddleback finished ninth in the state, and it tied for the eighth best finish in program history. Saddleback's best finish at the state finals came in 2005 when it finished seventh.
