Saddleback had some sensational performances at the Cerritos Invitational. Danna Ibarra Canales kept up her magical run by setting a new program record in the 1,500 meters. The defending state champion broke the record when she crossed the finish line in 4:35.64 to shatter her own record from earlier this spring at the Orange Coast Invitational (4:39.06).
Alongside Ibarra Canales on the women's side were wins from both Maya Schweitzer and Emily Fuhrmann. Schweitzer easily set a personal-best in the long jump when she leaped 5.39 meters to win the event. The jump gave Schweitzer the "A" standard and was the 10th best jump in the state this season and the eighth biggest jump in program history. Fuhrmann captured the triple jump with a leap of 10.68 meters on Saturday. It was her second-best jump of the season and she currently ranks sixth in the state. Fuhrmann also finished third in the long jump (5.19m).
Micah Krosby appears to be settling into a great rhythm in recent weeks after winning the pole vault state title last spring. Krosby won the event again on Saturday after clearing 4.55 meters, which was his height at the state finals last year. He set a personal-best at the Moorpark Invitational last weekend (4.60m). Joining Krosby in the winner's circle at Cerritos on Saturday was Griffin Schwab in the high jump. Schwab had a leap of 2.00 meters, which equaled a personal-best a week earlier. He is currently tied for second in the state this season.
Other top-5 performances turned in from the men's team were turned in by Ayson Anderson, Rylan Edrosolano and Austin Long. Anderson finished third in the pole vault when he cleared 3.8 meters. Edrosolano was tied for third in the high jump when he cleared 1.85 meters, which was a personal-best. Long finished third in the 110 hurdles with a personal-best time of 15.81 while finishing fifth in the 400 hurdles (59.66).
Saddleback track & field will be back in action at the Orange Empire Conference Prelims this Friday at Orange Coast College.
