Track finishes up at state
The Saddleback track & field season came to a close at the 3C2A State Track & Field Finals on Saturday at College of San Mateo. Both the men and women finished in the top 20 in the state.
The Saddleback track & field season came to a close at the 3C2A State Track & Field Finals on Saturday at College of San Mateo. Both the men and women finished in the top 20 in the state.
Saddleback was led by four athletes that all finished on the podium. Griffin Schwab and Micah Krosby both scored team points for the men by finishing in the top eight while Danna Ibarra Canales and Emily Fuhrmann both scored points for the women.
Schwab finished in second place in the high jump when he cleared 2.0 meters on his second attempt. He was one of three competitors to clear the height, finishing just behind Riverside City's Bryson Williamson, who went on to clear 2.05 meters.
Krosby finished in fifth place in the pole vault, clearing a height of 4.40 meters. The winner was College of the Sequoias' Shane Bagley, who cleared 5.04 meters.
Ibarra Canales came up just short in attempting to win a second straight state title in the 1,500 when she crossed the finish line in 4:46.39 to finish right behind Orange Coast College's Liberty Miller. Ibarra Canales also finished fourth in the 5,000 meters in a time of 18:00.11.
Fuhrmann finishes a solid run to the season in finishing sixth in the triple jump. She leaped 10.60 meters on her sixth and final attempt. College of the Sequoias' Ashlyn Reed had a jump of 11.54 meters to win the event.
Saddleback's men finished in 17th place in the team competition while the women finished in 15th place.
