Team Stats
The Saddleback softball team improved to 3-0 on the season with a pair of wins against Santa Barbara City College on Saturday inside Bobcats Field. It is the second straight season the program has won its opening three games of the season.
Saddleback never trailed the entire day, winning the opening game 4-1 before cruising to a win in game two, 10-4.
Saddleback scored its opening run of the day in the bottom of the second inning when Averi Moon doubled to center field to score Kylee Cammarato. The Bobcats would score two more times in the third inning, taking advantage of a defensive miscue when Lehua Garcia singled home sister Ka'ui Garcia for a 2-1 lead. Cammarato then had a sacrifice ground out to third base to score Ehva Cifuentes-Zombulovic, who had singled earlier in the inning.
Saddleback scored an insurance run in the bottom half of the fifth inning when Cifuentes-Zombulovic walked and stole second base before being driven home on a single from Lehua Garcia.
Saddleback's 4-1 lead was plenty for pitcher Colette Howren, who pitched a complete game in picking up her first win of the season. Howren (pictured) spread around five hits while striking out four in earning the win.
Game two was tight until the bottom half of the fourth inning when the Bobcats put up four runs to take a 6-1 lead. Saddleback had three hits in the inning and took advantage of a defensive miscue and a walk in opening up a big lead. Lehua Garcia was again in the middle of the action, driving home both Ka'ui Garcia and Tessa Arciniega with a single for the final two runs of the inning.
Saddleback led 7-4 heading into the bottom half of the sixth inning when the Cats had three straight extra-base hits to start the inning. Lola Winningham led off with a triple before Ka'ui Garcia doubled to right field for an 8-4 lead. Cifuentes-Zombulovic then hit a towering shot over the center field fence for her first home run of the season and a 10-4 lead.
Kylee Cammarato started and pitched a complete game to improve to 2-0 on the season. Cammarato struck out six batters while allowing five hits on the afternoon.
Saddleback is now 3-0 to start the season. The Bobcats will play again on Tuesday when they host Bakersfield College at 2:00 PM at Bobcats Field.
