The Saddleback softball team split a double-header with Los Angeles Mission College on Saturday at Bobcats Field. Ehva Cifuentes-Zombulovic had a big opening game in the win.
Cifuentes-Zombulovic had two home runs in the opening game, propelling Saddleback to a 5-1 win. She hit her third home run of the season with two runners on base in the bottom half of the third inning after the Bobcats had fallen behind 1-0. Cifuentes-Zombulovic then accounted for the final run of the game when she hit a blast over the left-center field wall in the bottom of the fifth inning for a 5-1 advantage. It was her fourth home run of the season.
Isabelle Gedeon pitched a complete game in picking up her first win of the season in the opener. Gedeon spread around eight hits while the defense played flawlessly behind her in a supporting role.
Game two was a tight battle heading to the sixth inning as the two teams were tied at 1-1. Los Angeles Mission then scored three runs, two of which were unearned after the Bobcats had a defensive miscue in the field.
Saddleback rallied for a run in the top half of the seventh inning when Calista Beltran singled home Averi Moon to cut the lead to 4-2. The Bobcats then had the bases loaded with two outs in the inning, but were unable to push across any more runs in dropping the second game of the double-header.
Saddleback is now 4-3 overall for the season. The Bobcats will travel to Citrus College for a game against the Owls on Tuesday at 2:00 PM before heading to Cuesta College for a tournament starting on Friday in San Luis Obispo.
