Howren goes 3-for-4, including walk-off homer
The Saddleback softball team rallied for a 5-4 win against Citrus College on Tuesday at Bobcats Field. Colette Howren's walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh inning was the difference.
Saddleback fell behind 3-0 in the top half of the second inning. The Owls had three hits and a walk in the inning, with Aalijah Aranda providing the big blow with a bases-clearing double.
Saddleback finally broke through in the bottom half of the fourth inning when they pieced together three hits to cut the lead to 3-1. Lola Winningham singled home Colette Howren, who had led off the inning with a single.
Saddleback took its first lead of the game in the bottom half of the fifth inning when it struck for three runs. The Bobcats had four hits in the inning and took advantage of a defensive miscue from Citrus. Howren tied the game when she doubled to left-center field to score Ehva Cifuentes-Zombulovic and Lehua Garcia. Later in the inning, Jenna Juarez hit a ball just over the second baseman's glove into right-center field to score Katelyn Peters with the go-ahead run.
The game went to the bottom of the seventh inning tied after Citrus evened the score in the sixth inning. The Bobcats wasted no time in finishing the game when Howren stepped to the plate and hit a towering shot over the center field fence. It was Howren's third straight hit as she finished 3-for-4 with three RBI while scoring a pair of runs.
Saddleback started Kylee Cammarato on the mound and she pitched a complete game in picking up her fourth win of the season. Cammarato struck out six for the day while spreading around six hits.
Saddleback is now 7-5 following the win. The Bobcats will play again on Thursday when hosting Victor Valley College at 2:00 PM.
