Cats win third straight
Saddleback seven games above .500 for the first time this season
The Saddleback softball team defeated Santa Ana College, 3-1, on Thursday afternoon at Bobcats Field. Saddleback moved to seven games above .500 for the first time this season with the win.
Saddleback scored solo runs in the second and third innings in taking a 2-0 lead. Mikayla Mendoza doubled down the left field line with Alexis Vanhorn on base and Vanhorn scored from second base for a 1-0 advantage. Ehva Cifuentes-Zombulovic then singled with Millie Maher on base to give the Cats a 2-0 lead heading to the fourth inning.
Santa Ana cut the lead to 2-1 in the top half of the fifth inning to make things interesting at the end. The Bobcats bounced right back with an insurance run in the bottom half of the inning when Lola Winningham led off the inning with a single and later scored on a sacrifice fly from Cifuentes-Zombulovic.
Saddleback has been red hot on the mound as of late and the streak continued with Kylee Cammarato on Thursday. Cammarato pitched a complete game to improve to 8-3 on the season, striking out eight Dons along the way. In the past three games, the Saddleback staff has allowed just eight hits while striking out 21 in 19 innings of work.
Maher was the sparkplug on offense, finishing 3-for-3 while swiping three bases as a base-runner.
Saddleback is now 14-7 overall and 2-0 in Orange Empire Conference play following the win. The Bobcats and Dons will finish the series at Santa Ana on Friday. The first pitch is scheduled for 2:00 PM in Santa Ana.
