Cats scratch up Tigers for sixth straight win
The Saddleback women’s basketball team won its sixth straight game with a 74-60 victory over Riverside City College on Wednesday night inside the gymnasium. With the win, the Bobcats moved into sole possession of first place in the Orange Empire Conference.

Saddleback was red hot at the beginning of the game, jumping out to a 30-12 lead after the opening quarter. The Bobcats made 4-of-8 shots from beyond the arc in the quarter while forcing the Tigers into 12 turnovers. Mariana Mina was sizzling from the field, scoring 14 points in the quarter while Kassidy Beach recorded four steals.
Saddleback remained hot throughout the second quarter in building a 53-25 lead at the intermission. The Bobcats were 5-of-10 from three-point range in the quarter as four different players hit from long range.
Saddleback rested starters in the second half with the game well in hand. The Bobcat lead swelled to 29 points with 8:53 remaining in the third quarter after Mina made her third three-pointer of the contest for a 56-27 advantage. She would finish with 17 points while Beach scored a team-high 18 points while collecting 11 rebounds and eight steals. Nina Saiki also finished in double-digits with 10 points and four assists.
Saddleback is now 15-4 overall and 3-0 in Orange Empire Conference (OEC) play. The Bobcats moved into sole possession of first place after Orange Coast College lost to Cypress College in other OEC action on Wednesday.
Saddleback will try for a seventh straight win on Friday when it travels to Santa Ana College. The Bobcats and Dons are scheduled to tip off at 7:00 PM in Santa Ana.
NOTES: Saddleback is 11 games over .500 for the first time since 2016-17 when it started 16-5 and managed to get to 14 games above .500 at one point during the season (19-5). The Bobcats would finish 21-10 in 2016-17, dropping five of their last seven games to finish in second place. The last time Saddleback won an OEC title was in 2013-14 when it went 12-2 in conference play.
