The Saddleback women's soccer team captured the Mt. San Antonio College Tournament championship with a 2-1 victory over Lake Tahoe College on Sunday in Walnut. The Bobcats are now 3-0 to start the season.
Saddleback outplayed Lake Tahoe throughout, but it was the Coyotes that scored first when Saddleback turned the ball over in their own end and Lake Tahoe capitalized with the opening goal in the 20th minute on what was their only real scoring chance of the half.
Saddleback kept up the pressure and finally broke through when Hannah Allen took a pass from Aubrey Perez and lofted a ball over the goal keepers head for the tying goal in the 35th minute.
Saddleback came out hot in the second half and had a handful of opportunities before McKenna Pugh took a feed from Perez and broke the stalemate with a goal in the 73rd minute for a 2-1 lead. The Bobcats then defended their own goal over the final 15+ minutes while Lake Tahoe tried to rally up some offense. The Coyotes never had any close calls as the Bobcats held onto the ball to run out the clock on a day when temperatures were near triple digits.
Saddleback has most of the week off before traveling to Pasadena City College for a game on Friday. The Bobcats and Lancers are scheduled to start at 6:30 PM in Pasadena. It is a rematch from the regional finals last fall.
