The Saddleback women's soccer team ran its unbeaten streak to five games with a 3-1 victory at Fullerton College on Tuesday in Fullerton. The Bobcats remain towards the top of the standings with two games remaining in the opening round of Orange Empire Conference play.
Saddleback was facing a Fullerton squad with only a handful of wins, so it was no surprise that the Bobcats managed to pull out a win given their high ranking in the state. Perhaps a bigger threat on Tuesday came from Mother Nature, who moved the game into the stadium at Fullerton rather than playing on the soaked grass field the Lady Hornets prefer to play on. The rain managed to go away right before the contest, allowing for the clubs to play the game on the artificial turf field inside the stadium.
Saddleback took a quick lead when Araylia Holiday scored in the fourth minute for a 1-0 advantage. It was Holiday's fourth goal of the season, and her third in the last three games.
Fullerton pulled to even in the 21st minute when Edie Pfefferkorn scored her team-leading third goal of the season for the Hornets. The Bobcats quickly responded with Milana McClain rattling in her fourth goal of the season to reclaim the lead in the 39th minute.
Saddleback added an insurance goal in the 72nd minute as McKenna Pugh scored her fourth goal of the season for a 3-1 lead.
Saddleback is now 9-1-1 overall and 4-0-1 in Orange Empire Conference play following the win. The Bobcats lead Santiago Canyon College by one point in the standings but have played an extra game as a result of SCC's game on Tuesday being postponed due to field conditions.
Saddleback will play at Santa Ana on Friday (12:00 PM) before hosting Santiago Canyon in a showdown next Tuesday (3:00 PM).
