Meyer sets program record in triple jump
Meyer has the longest jump in the state so far this season
The Saddleback women's track & field team was in action this past weekend at the El Camino College Meet and had some sensation performances to report. Roxanne Meyer was the headliner, setting a program record.
Meyer jumped 12.29 meters (40'4") on her third attempt to break the program triple jump record previously held by Kristin Kulow ('89). It put her in first place in the event and easily eclipsed the "A" standard set by the state. Meyer also finished third in the long jump with a leap of 4.87 meters.
Saddleback had a number of other fine performances at El Camino on Saturday. Shae Barrera finished third in the 1500 meters when she crossed the finish line in 5:10.46. It was the 14th fastest time recorded in the state this season. Barrera wasn't finished, finishing fourth in the 800 meters with a time of 2:35.26. That was good enough for the 16th fastest time in the state. Joining Barrera in the 800 meters was Zelda Sorto, who finished sixth in the event (2:39.28).
Alexandra McCoy followed up her win at the Soka Invitational with a second-place finish in the pole vault. McCoy cleared 2.90 meters to equal her height at Soka. She is currently ninth in the state.
Alice Conboy was a fourth-place finisher in the women's discus. Conboy had a fling of 28.20 meters, which put her in 19th place in the state this season. She was also third in the hammer throw with a distance of 22.01 meters.
Saddleback will compete again at Riverside City College on Friday in the first Orange Empire Conference (OEC) meet of the season.
