Ibarra Canales is getting very used to winning. She won the 1,500-meters at the state track & field championships last spring and has won all but one event so far in cross country this fall. After winning the Orange Empire Conference title last weekend, Ibarra Canales added to her trophy case as she captured the Southern California Regional title on Friday.
Ibarra Canales crossed the finish line in the 5k event in 18:58.0 to finish 4.7 seconds ahead of her closest competitor. She now heads to the state meet as one of the favorites to capture the individual state title.
Saddleback finished 1-23-49-76-81 for a team total of 230. It was good enough for seventh place and easily qualified them for the state meet in two weeks in Fresno.
Following Ibarra Canales was Kiana Zerehgar, who was 23rd in the team competition with a time of 20:39.3. Rounding out the team scoring were Leilani Vivaldo (21:38.5), Lillian Bigda (22:36.9) and Midori McConathy (23:01.4).
Saddleback will compete at the 3C2A State Championships at Woodward Park in Fresno on November 23.
