Saddleback and Cypress is arguably the top rivalry in the state. The two programs have been a constant at the state tournament and have appeared in each of the last three state championship games.
Saddleback and Cypress had another great installment of the rivalry on Tuesday with the Bobcats coming out on top. The two squads went back and forth until the 69th minute when Saddleback broke the ice. Milana McClain outdueled a Cypress defender along the end line and escaped with the ball, feeding Araylia Holiday for the only goal of the game. Holiday took the feed and lifted a ball over the goalkeepers head. The ball glanced off the keepers hands and crept into the left side of the net for the lone goal of the game.
Saddleback's defense played well, and Maycie Pugh was impenetrable in net. Pugh finished with seven saves for the game in picking up her seventh win of the season.
Saddleback is now 8-1 overall and 3-0 in Orange Empire Conference play. The Bobcats will host Orange Coast College on Friday at 3:00 PM.
